THERMOFAX MACHINES - information before you bid New!
I did some research and found some very helpful information mostly from tattoo sites. This is what I found and I also spoke with George on the phone; nice guy.
If you want to try and obtain a refurbished 3M Thermofax machine with as much as a 1 year warranty, give George Cromas at GC Service Co. in New York a call. George is a retired former 3M employee and he refurbishes these machines for resale as well as offering repair services for them. His rates are very reasonable, and when he has machines to sell, his price is also fair when compared to the "unknowns" you'll find on eBay.
He has a large inventory of 3M parts, including the wide belts for the 4500 models that were discontinued by 3M years ago. He also can convert these models to use the normal size belts.
George at GC Service Co, can be reached at 718-951-8293 and he is in Brooklyn, NY.
The problem is that there are only a hand full of companies that manufactured these units. 3M, USI, BANDAFLEX, Standard, and Vista Fax. There are a few more that I can not remember at the moment. and unfortunatly they quit making these units.

The manufacturer of spirit master materials is Colonial Converting Corporation (formerly Colonial Carbon Corp.). They are in Illinois and can be reached in the U.S. and Canada at 800-345-9313.
I also read that the amps must be at least 12 or the machines won't get hot enough to make a stencil.
