Fun and informative classes for 2008 are listed below, including a STRIP club! Join us!Class fees need to be paid at the time of registration.

Class Policies Class fees are non-refundable unless GFW cancels a class. We reserve the right to cancel a class due to inclement weather, or if class minimums are not met.

Beading

Class DescriptionTechniques used: tubular peyote, fringe techniques
Amulet purses are small purses or pouches usually attached to a strap so they can be worn as a necklace. Use them to carry affirmations, goals, or other small items that are special to you.
During this 3 hour class, the student will learn how to use tubular peyote stitch to make their own small amulet purse pendant embellished with simple fringe.

ClassBead Embroidery Workshop

Class DescriptionThe workshop will be making an Amulet Pendant
Techniques used: various bead embroidery and beadweaving techniques.
Beaders of all levels will love this full-day workshop on bead embroidery! This is great way to use up those left-over beads from other projects (but also a great excuse for buying a few more). Using a variety of beads and stitching techniqies, each student will take home an original one-of-a-kind piece of wearable bead art at the end of the day.

A variety of seed beads in all sizes
An assortment of specialty beads, buttons or cabochons with flat sides
3" x 4" piece of Easy felt (provided)

Class DescriptionTechniques used: Double needle weave
During this 2-hour class students will use a double needle weave to make a pretty bracelet using the beautiful selection of shank buttons available at Grinnell FiberWorks.

Class DescriptionTechniqies used: spiral rope
During this 3 hour class students will learn a versatile spiral stitch to make a slip-on bracelet. Make it in the colors of your choice to wear with your favorite outfit.

Class DescriptionTechniques used: Right angle weave, fringe techniques
During this 3 hour class students will use right angle weave to fashion a cuff bracelet with flirty fringe embellishments. This pretty bracelet is reminiscent of flowers on a garden trellis and can be made in any color combination to match your best spring outfit!

ClassPeyote Stitch Brooch

Class DescriptionLearn a simple technique of Peyote stitch while making an organic style brooch. Lyndsay is a talented Grinnell college student who loves the creative process.

Fiber Arts

ClassRealism to Abstract from a Photo - a four day workshop with Esterita Austin

Class DescriptionIn this class you will be guided through a series of design exercises to create an original abstract composition. Using your own photograph as a starting point (guidelines will be provided) you will be shown how to translate your design into a workable pattern and from there create an original fiber composition. A variety of fusing and painting techniques will be incorporated into the construction.
Cost$295 includes lunch for 4 days
Accommodations:
We are working with Grinnell College so out-of-town guests can stay in the air conditioned dorms for $15 per person per night, and within a short walking distance of the store and the whole downtown area.

Deadline for registration is April 30 due to flight reservations, etc

Frequent Buyer Cards may not be used for class payment.

Class DescriptionIn this beginning needle-turn appliqué class, Angela will teach you the basic appliqué stitch and help you understand the techniques of needle-turn appliqué. You will make this simple appliqué block suitable for use in a sampler quilt or a small wall hanging.

GFW has cut over four hundred 2.5" x 21" Batiks in all colors of the rainbow. Join the comraderie and card sharks! Meet monthly, play cards, show-n-tell, pick up a project sheet, share ideas, eat Pizza.

Along with the project sheet, books and other free patterns will be offered to inspire. What a way to get a great mix of batiks in one quilt or project.
Cost$5 a month to cover pizza and chocolate!

Sewing

Class DescriptionFor all of you who want to learn how to sew, this is the class for you! You'll leave with a finished bag that can be used for anything! The bag can also be made as a back pack. Plus you'll know how easy it is to make cool stuff with your sewing machine!
SuppliesMust have a sewing machine in good working condition. Supplies to bring: two-1.25 yard cuts of coordinating fabric, scissors, coordinating thread, pins, seam ripper. All supplies may be purchased at GFW.
